Team Showjumping Competition October 2018

We were blessed to have a lovely sunny morning in October for our team show jumping competition.   We had 11 teams and lots of enthusiastic supporters.

The atmosphere was wonderful, friendly and supportive of the riders.  It was a long course but rode well.  There were a few tumbles but nothing serious.

We had four heights for riders to choose from and in the smallest class, 60cms, I could hear shouts of  “ the red and white one next” and so on.  Nearly everyone joined in this shouting, the way to the younger riders and less experienced adults. Officials allowed this to happen as it all added to the fun.

There was great support for the higher classes as well and altogether it was a great day.  One of our teams  “The Brave Pants”  headed by Rita Griffiths won the competition. Well done “The Brave Pants”.

The other good news is that we made £240.00 for club funds

Winter Novice Show Jumping Qualifier 2019

Three of our brave members set off in high winds to head to Southview for the qualifier. We were lucky it was being held there as we were indoors.

Anne and Joy Higginson (Meg’s Mum) were the team helpers who had the job of being on the main arena gate all day. They enjoyed it though getting the best view of the arena.

Meg Higginson on Ella, Rebecca Furniss on Tommy and Angharad Williams on Gem made up the team because our fourth team member’s horse was injured and unable to take part.
The first round went really well both Meg and Rebecca going clear. Meg had 4 time penalties and Angharad had a refusal and time penalties. This resulted in 13 points in first round. In the second round, Rebecca had a pole and Meg was going clear until she had last fence down. Angharad had 2 poles resulting finishing on 29. The team came 6th overall out of 13 teams!

There were so many huge hunters and showjumpers in the Cheshire teams, against which Meg’s cob, Becca’s New Forest and Angharad’s little horse was quite intimidating, but they certainly put up a performance against the bigger clubs which they were very proud of?. Well done team!

Winter Novice Dressage 2018

On Saturday November 3rd 2018, five VVRC members set out for Somerford Park to take part in the area winter novice dressage competition.
The competition was held on the lovely outdoor arenas with plenty of warm up space. I think most of the horses were eyeing up the cross-country fences and would have enjoyed doing that after their tests!

The team of Kat Morgan, Janet Warner, Meg Higginson and Sally Evans, plus Ruth Hurley as individual, all did good tests. Janet did amazingly well to come 3rd in her arena but sadly the team were out of the rosettes with stiff competition from around the area. Many thanks to those who stewarded (Kat and Sally) especially as it was quite a cold day.

VVRC success at Winter Qualifiers

BRC Arena Eventing Qualifier at Radford’s Equestrian. 27th October 2018
We entered a team for the 90cm Area Eventing competition at Radford’s. The team consisted of Rachel Woolley, Rebecca Furniss, Meg Higginson and Ali Harper. A few of us had not competed in a competition like this before or for a long time at this height and Becky and Ali were lucky enough to get some practice in the week before with Sarah Warner.
The course consisted of eight show jumps followed by eight XC jumps. The final “joker” fence was a show jump set at 10cm higher than all the other jumps. The course designers had done a great job designing a course that was very rideable which provided some interesting choices about which line to take and this did prove that those who were brave enough to ride the tighter lines made the optimum time.
As we all know, Radford’s is a great venue for parking and spectating and our times allowed us to walk the course together and to cheer our team mates on. We all got round and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Our team came 4th and Rachel Woolley came individual 3rd.
A big thank you to our helpers, without whom these BRC competitions can’t run.
