Autumn Camp at Bow House

Autumn Camp at Bow House

18th – 20th September 2009

Well what can I say – it was brilliant, wonderful, excellent, fab (do you get my drift?). I was so excited beforehand, I hadn’t slept all week (and even forgot to be nervous).

This time we had 17 members staying for 1, 2 and 3 days. I may have scared a few camp “virgins” (who do not know my strange sense of humor) when I introduced myself as the “entertainment manager” asking if they would prefer to play bingo or do a quiz, whilst in next breath asking for details of their next of kin!

Over the 3 days we were kept busy with a mixture of flatwork, jumping, polework and cross country.

J.P and Caroline are such brilliant instructors and despite a few thrills and spills, everyone achieved so much and gained in confidence (oh and the horses seemed to love it).

On the Saturday evening J.P enthralled us with a wonderful demonstration of flatwork and long-reining. When we asked of anyone wanted a try, Katherine was not shy in coming forward and amazed us with her skills straight away (mind you, anything must be easier than driving one of her trains).

Sadly Janette has a bad back and so could not ride on the Sunday, so Wendy’s daughter, Melissa stepped in to take her place. A big thank you to Melissa and also thanks for helping me all weekend.

This year we had a new caterer, Katherine Perkins, her food was excellent and very yummy too.

J.P and Caroline’s staff, family and friends came to check we weren’t too homesick, or it may have been alcohol in the marquee that enticed them. We were very good and kept drink down to a maximum of 1 or 2 (bottles) per night.

We were blessed with wonderful weather which only added to our enjoyment of the the 3 days.

Once again, thanks must go to J.P and Caroline for their excellent instruction and the use of their wonderful facilities and a BIG thank you to all the happy campers.

I hope to see you all next year at camp.

Lots of love and hugs,

Sue Bitcliffe
