Novice Indoor Show Jumping Qualifier

On Sunday 15th November two teams from the club competed in the above event.
One team consisted of Sam Davies on Stillwater, Victoria Robson on Tempest River Queen, Suzanne Jenkins on Edisfords Jack Flash and Katie Ellis on Stardust and Spangle.
The other team consisted of Suzanne Jenkins on Sweet Dreams, Denise Jones on Jake V11, Jo Phillips on Pontesford Night Shift and Wendy Gartry on Mister Jack.
At the end of the first round only three teams out of twenty eight were on a score of zero, and two of those were ours!! Jo did have one nasty moment when a small Jack Russell wandered across the arena between two jumps, with the course designer opening the gate and not quite deciding what to do about it! Anyway, luckily we think Shifty just thought it was Jo’s dog Bailey and thankfully carried on as if it was nothing unusual! Although the jumps only went up 5cms. for the second round, it caused mayhem. Our first team finished on a score of 16 points with Victoria and Suzanne picking up only 4 faults each for both rounds and Katie and Sam and Katie doing really well to focus their young horses.
In the other team, Denise put up a very brave performance suffering with a knee problem and the gentle giant Jake just proved too strong for her to hold under the circumstances and she had to circle in front of the last fence. Jo had trouble with Shifty in the collecting ring – he got very over excited by it all and so she did well to have just 4 faults and 3 time penalties in order to keep him under control. Wendy held her nerve well and jumped a very nice round picking up just 4 faults. Suzanne was the star of the team with Sweet Dreams and finished much to her delight with a double clear! The team finished on a total of 11 penalties and was placed fifth!!
It was a most enjoyable though very long day with great team spirit and everyone supporting each other.
