Showjumping Qualifier – 26th June
Junior & Senior Outdoor Show Jumping Qualifier
Llandyrnog, DenbighSunday 26th June 2011
What a fab day it was, the weather was fantastic & the venue was the most spectacular setting I’ve ever seen..
All of our competitors competed brilliantly well, and are a credit to the club. To be fair tho, the show-ground was rather “agricultural” to say the least, Ring 1 which housed the Open & Intermediate comps was set on a sloping hill, which posed quite a few riding challenges for the competitors, i suspect the course builder may have felt inspired as it was Hickstead Derby day that day, so i think they deliberately chose difficult terrain on which to build the course.. Ring 2 which housed the Novice course was flatter & more typical of the terrain for a show jumping course.
Anyway, down to business, our first competitor to compete was Kat Morgan riding Davies in the Open, the fences in the open are upto 1.15 m, so its a decent track by anyones standards. Kat rode brilliantly and rode a clear round in both the first and second rounds and qualified for the jump off, the jump off course was very challenging, but Kat rode really well, just having 4 faults, and she finished in 3rd place.
The Intermediate followed, we had Kat riding Bechan Delinquent, Sian Bates riding Basil & Rachel Tudor Davies riding Hello Again Classy Lady.
Kat & Del jumped a double clear, Sian & Basil had just 4 faults in each round, Rachel had 4 faults in round 1 & a clear round in the 2nd round. The team finished in 6th place.
Kate Curzon competed in the Novice on her beautiful mare Cassandra v/n Berekenshof, Kate jumped clear in each round, and qualified for the jump off, she had just the last pole down in the jump off and finished 6th.
We would have had two competitors in the novice, however, Laura Weavers passport was checked prior to the competition and found to have missed a vaccination by a month about 4 years ago.. so sadly Laura had to withdraw.
In summary, it was a good outing by VVRC competitors, a fantastic day was had by all, including the horse flies..
