Diane Carter
Advanced Rider and List 5 Dressage Judge
I have over 20 years of experience, teaching a variety of riders from confident competitors to more ‘grass root’ riders. I specialise in a friendly and non-scary approach and have helped many people, of all ages, to greatly increase their confidence and ability as riders.
A bit about me –
I know what a challenge riding can be, and have spent many years riding and training horses, training two of my own stallions to Prix St. George and Advanced Medium levels. I have competed to affiliated Advanced Medium so far.
My particular passion is Spanish horses with whom I have won breed in-hand, ridden National Championships and won ‘Ridden’ (and ‘In Hand’) showing at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, amongst others. I have also enjoyed the teaching and training of many other breeds and their riders over the years.
My own teacher for many years has been Stephen Clarke, head Olympic Judge and FEI Judge General.

Sarah Dobell

I have worked in the horse industry all my life.
Competed successfully in Pony Club and passed my A Test.
Trained at Talland Riding Centre and achieved my B.H.S.A.I
Spent 12 months with Dressage Trainer and List 1 Judge.
Trained and worked at The Wharf and achieved my B.H.S.I.
Competed at Wembley in Large Hack Class and then this mare developed Brucellosis and was retired.
Charles Dickens who I had with me at The Wharf was very difficult to train but with a lot of top class training became very successful. Competing and placed at Wembley in Open Spillers- Medium Dressage and Jumping, BD Advanced Medium, BS Foxhunter. Then sadly suddenly lost him with a ruptured stomach.
I continued to teach freelance, school horses for clients, examine for B.H.S., train students for exams, teach Pony Club and work part time.
Became a BD Dressage Judge.
Spent 12 months at a college which I hated as I am very practical with very high standards.
Worked with Eventers and National Hunt horses developing more experience and knowledge on all aspects of management and continued to freelance.
Worked for 18 months for Oliver Townend helping with horses up to 4 star.
I bought some more horses but continued to have extremely bad luck with soundness, so have been very limited how much competing I have been able to do.
Over the years have had lessons from top trainers- David Hunt, Stephen Clarke, Spencer Wilton, Jane Bartle and others.
I am judging up to BD Medium Level and at BE to Advanced Intermediate, FEI 1 star at Chatsworth and Somerford International.
I am utterly dedicated and really enjoy my coaching of the horse and rider and remain open minded over the training and have real empathy with the horses.

  1. HI, just wanted to find out about joining a riding club. We have just moved to Aberbechan in Newtown. My three children did pony club with the United but just wondering about doing some more riding myself…….may be a bit rusty! I am just starting walking out for a few weeks as horse unfit so may not be able to start straight away.

  2. hey, we’d love you to join! We do lots, if you have a look at our newletter you’ll see what we get up to (a new version is imminent) and if you are on facebook like our page and you;ll see loads on there too.
we have an ODE in June, summer dressage league and show jumping competitions throughout the summer, Camp in July and clinics all year round.
details about membership can also be found on this web-site. I’m sure if you wanted to try something before you join that would be fine.
I moved to the area 5 years ago and have met virtually all my friends through the RC. they are a very friendly and inclusive bunch.
let me know if you need any more info

  3. Welcome to the area, Rebecca. You’ll find VVRC a very friendly bunch with lots going on in the club, to suit all levels. Looking forward to seeing you coming to some of our events in the near future. We have a very informal dressage evening on Wed 17th June at Brithdir E C….it would be a nice opportunity to come and meet some of the gang. Cheers, Elspeth
