VVRC Camp at Berriewood Farm

July saw another successful Riding Club Camp at Berriewood, with 30 attendees!

Lessons began on Friday afternoon for some with Polework and Showjumping lessons with Kim Webster, with other campers arriving through the evening.

After a busy afternoon the hungry bunch were fed by a delivery from the local pub, followed by a ‘few’ drinks and some samples for our 4 legged friends from Horse Hage.

Saturday saw an early start for some, with others feeling a little worse for ware!

We welcomed Sally Poppe, Janet Green and Nicky Shipp for a full day of teaching. We also had a visit from Sarah, a Topspec Rep, who weighed our horses and provided us with some goodies, which I think was a highlight for some members.

The evening saw a demonstration from Emily Pryce, where we welcomed some extra members for the evening.  After the informative demonstration from Emily, a selection of food was delivered.

With the weather on our side, the campers enjoyed an evening Yoga session outside hosted by Kat, followed by numerous drinks and chit chat.

On Sunday we got some weather that wasn’t ordered but this didn’t dampen our spirits! With instruction from Ticky Fletcher, Elspeth Carr & Nicky Shipp it was another great day.

Camp drew to a close with lots of smiles from our members and even suggestions of a longer camp or 2 camps!!!

Thanks to Penny for the fantastic venue and facilities, all of our instructors, our special guests Emily, Sarah and Martha Lily and last but certainly not least Sally whom I could not have organised camp without.

Look forward to seeing you all next year.

Justine

VVRC Camp 2016

Preparations for summer camp started early on in the year with everyone getting excited and planning their packing with key decisions being made between prosecco, beer, gin or in some cases, all 3! Justine assembled her team of help (Emily and Sally) and set about organising the logistics. Quite how she worked out the timetable of rides for the weekend, I will never know, but she managed to sort it so everyone had all the disciplines they wanted over the weekend and none of them clashed.
Camp itself took place at the wonderful venue of Berriewood Farm which boasts all the facilities we could need: roomy stables, 3 large arenas, grass flatwork and show jumping arenas, not forgetting the cross country course. Additional facilities include the RDA room with fridges, freezers and microwave and a new shower block. Luxury!
Twenty seven people arrived and lessons for some kicked off on the Friday afternoon, whilst others went for a hack around the fields or just settled in. Following a massive downpour, which some got caught out in, we had a great supper delivered from the local pub followed by a tricky quiz, which the geeks among us really enjoyed and everyone else remembered why they don’t like quizzes.
Saturday morning arrived without too many hangovers and the show jumping team headed off to compete in the area qualifiers. We had a very sick horse who thank fully made a good recovery after vet treatment. The rest of us had some great lessons with a variety of instructors. Saturday evening saw more food delivered from the local pub following a great talk on basic first aid for your horse. Simon Woods, ably assisted by Cassie, came over and Rupert allowed us to put bandages on his legs and stick Post it notes all over him. What a good boy!
Sunday saw the final day of lessons and then we had to pack up for another year. I think we all had a great weekend and learnt a lot from our instructors. Many thanks to the instructors, who included Paralympic gold medallist Nicola Tustain, as well as our more local instructors: Nicky Shipp, Ticky Fletcher, Janet Green, Kim Webster and Elspeth Carr. Thanks also to Penny from Berriewood who always makes us feel welcome and even found a horse for one rider. Finally, thanks to Martha Lily Photography for these fantastic photos.
Biggest thanks must go to Justine for her organisational skills and she kept the show on the road with a little help from Emily and Sally!

Jean Gow Trophy 2015

Jo Nunnerley receives the Jean Gow trophy
Jo was chosen for the award this year because she has triumphed over adversity to finish as the highest placed VVRC member at our ODE at Berriewood this year. Jo has come back to riding after breaking her back a few years ago, and despite having two young children, she has managed to produce a young horse to competition standard.
A well-deserved choice for the award this year

ODE Results 2015

Results for the Vyrnwy Valley Riding Club & Tanatside Hunt Branch of The Pony Club One Day Event

ODE Results 2015

Thank you to all of our competitors who battled the weather conditions to take part in the ODE. We hope you had a great day and were pleased with your results.

I would like to say a huge “thank you” to those members and friends who helped at our ODE on Saturday at Berriewood.

The weather conditions were “challenging”, but everyone just accepted that and made the most of it.

I am going to risk naming those who helped and hope to goodness I don’t miss anyone out!!

First of all we had several non VVRC members
Jo Woodcock who did a splendid job as XC Control and kept that whole phase moving despite deteriorating ground conditions.

Wendy and Sally Poppe (who is a member) ran the dressage

Rhiannon Hinton who dressage judged.

Trish Bridge was in charge of scoring and also was the extremely long suffering person who worked out all the competitor times and dealt with the many changes thrown at her.

Linda Jackson who was scoring.

Patsy Pyke’s husband Adrian who wrote for dressage and Jane Yorke’s partner Pete who also wrote for dressage.

Fiona and Rainer Jarman, Jan Glover, John Howarth and Harvey Walters (also on standby for fence repair) who all fence judged.

Now to our members

Sally Evans and myself are joint organisers on behalf of both clubs ( Tanatside PC and VVRC)

Anne Roberts who does a considerable amount of work before, during and after the event.

Jane Yorke and Patsy Pyke both judged dressage. In fact Patsy judged 2 classes.

Jeanette Barnes was in Secretaries

Elspeth Carr was scoring.

James Dawson ran the Show Jumping ably assisted by Jessica Jones

Tara McDermott ran her socks off collecting scores, Nikki Alexander and Vikki Luxmoore wrote for dressage, Joanne Matthews stewarded dressage and Sara Wright was on the XC start.
Irene Gill and Teresa Jones who served refreshments to fence judges.

Last but by no means least were the members who spent 8 hours out on the XC fence judging.

They were
Pat Sheppard, Jan Lawrence, Emily Jones, Rebecca Walters, Sue Jones, Emma Belcher, Heather Jones, Babs Williams, Jenny Clayton, Charlie Pearce, Sharon Ratcliff, Karen Booth, Erica Morgan. Kat Morgan, Gaynor Morgan, Meg Evans and Mair Schmeink helped on behalf of both clubs.

I believe we will have made a good amount of money for Riding Club Funds again which of course go straight back to members in one way or another.
