Inter-club Show Jumping 2017

This year’s Inter-Club Show Jumping was a lot of fun so thank you everyone who came and made it such a success! We had lots of new members jumping as well as members who only jump in public on very special occasions (shout out to my mum! proud daughter moment) and it was great seeing everyone jump for their club teams.
Thanks to VVRC members’ jumping successes on the day, we won the inter-club show jumping trophy for the second year in a row! Our competitor of the day was Babs Williams who earned the most points overall for the team. It was particularly fantastic to see Babs take home the prize because she has competed for us every year and it has been amazing to see her grow in confidence each time.
This competition couldn’t run without a squad of kind and helpful volunteers from both clubs who pole-pick, score, and go on arena gate duty. Big thanks to Sally Evans who kindly judged and commentated, and Gaynor Morgan who used her accounting skills to score for us again this year. Also, thanks needs to go to Jane Yorke who did a fabulous job of judging the style class for us.
We’re hoping to run the competition again next year. I really would like to stress that Polly (Dolfor RC rep) and I want to make this competition accessible to EVERYONE and jumps will be made as big or as small as they people who turn up to compete want to jump. This year we started at 45cm with a jump off at 50cm, but if people want poles on the ground to start with that’s absolutely fine! Our aim is to give everyone a chance to fly the flag for their club, and your club team will gain points just for you entering.
The classes we generally run are three normal rounds of show jumping with a jump off for clear rounds, at heights depending on what people want to jump. We also have an accumulator (1 minute to jump as many fences as you can), pairs (each partner jumps a shorter round of jumps (no one steal Heather, she’s my jumping partner!)), style class (not only do you need to leave the jumps up, you need to do it smartly), and chase-me-charlie (jumps go up and up – complete opposite to the limbo).
Look forward to seeing you all next year – lets go for three years in a row! Kat

Summer dressage league gets under way

The Summer dressage league got successfully underway on 27th April at Rhôs Farm Equestrian, Sarnau.

Despite the promise of a warm spring evening, there was a nip in the wind so, supplies of Pimm’s and hot chocolate were bought to keep us all cheery from Intro A to Novice 28.

Carol, our judge for the evening, had Anne’s triple chocolate biscuits to keep her sweet and she was not disappointed as our riders and their horses  paced confidently around the arena, showing off not only their skill and accuracy, but also our club’s diversity. Stout, native bred, to highly strung, exotic horses, Vyrnwy Valley is home to all!

Winners on the night and topping our leader board are: Jacky, Vicki, Anne and Sally, Well done!

Big thanks to our helpers on the night: Julie, Wendy, Jacky, Anne and Sally.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our next one, get those dates in your diaries!  Paula

Entries will be via Horse Monkey again and we’ll have the tests for the next competition up soon. If you would like to help out please let me know: paulajeffreson@aol.com

Horse Monkey

At recent committee meetings we have discussed how we can make the administration of club events easier, both for members and for the organisers running the events. We have elected to trial Horse Monkey for several upcoming events. This is a very popular method of entry and payment and is used by numerous RC’s and PC’s among others.

• There is a simple sign up process which will retain your’s/horses details for use with any events on Horse Monkey.
• You do not need a PayPal account as payment can be made by CC or DC, the choice is yours, it is as easy as doing a bank transfer.
• You will need to enter your VVRC membership number, which will be retained, this will be needed to give you club discounts for example: Cassie’s SJ is £6 for member’s and £7 for non-members, putting your number in will ensure you get the discounted price. Your membership number is on the card issued to you, if you do not have this please contact Sally Evans or myself and we will be happy to give it to you.
• It will not discount subs for clinics, this will be done in the normal way with Anne.
• It will give the organisers of the VVRC clinics and events better information for planning as the information will be produced in a report.
• There will be a link on the VVRC Facebook page to take you to the Horse Monkey site and there will be a link on the VVRC website that when clicked on will show you VVRC active events listed on Horse Monkey.

This will be new to some of you, so I am sure there will be some queries along the way…please do not hesitate to mention these, I personally use Horse Monkey and find it a very easy site to navigate and use.

If you do not have access to the internet, do not worry as although we want to promote this as the preferred method for entries we will take postal or on the day entries.

Area 20 Indoor Intermediate Show Jumping Qualifiers– October 11th 2015

A great day was had by all at the Area Show Jumping qualifier held at Reaseheath College last October. Vyrnwy Valley was represented by two teams, Vyrnwy Valley 1 (Becky King, Vicky Luxmoore and Rachel Tudor-Davies) and Vyrnwy Valley 2 (Elspeth Carr, Vicky Robson and Cassie Woods). The event was thoroughly well organised, the presentation following immediately after the class. Well done to Vyrnwy Valley Team 2 for coming 4th, and to Vyrnwy Valley Team 1 for finishing 6th. A huge thank you to all helpers on the day who gave up their time. We look forward to hopefully another successful day at the 2016 Summer Qualifiers.

Area Indoor Novice Show Jumping Qualifiers – 5th November 2015

Area Indoor Novice Show Jumping Qualifiers – 5th November 2015

This years’ qualifiers were once again held at Southview Equestrian Centre, Cheshire. The senior (sorry!!) class saw over 100 riders jump round two courses and it was fantastic that included in that number were four of our own VVRC members: Heather Jones, Justine Roberts, Hollie Hindley and James Manford. All four members had never competed in an area competition before and Hollie and James are both new to the club. I know jumping in an area competition has been a goal of Heather’s for a long time and she has worked exceedingly hard with Flicka and it certainly has paid off.
All four horses and riders jumped beautifully over a tricky course which was causing lots of problems. Each combination had at least one clear round and Hollie had two on her superstar pony! Everyone was so pleased with the team performance and it was topped off with the team finishing brilliant 3rd and the fastest of the teams with 4 faults thanks to ridiculously quick rounds and tight turns (how Justine navigated Alton, who stands at 17.2hh, around those corners is remarkable)! Hollie was also 5th individually!
I am a very proud show jumping co-ordinator and it’s wonderful to see hard work and perseverance paying off! Well done everyone! And a big thank you to Babs for being the official team helper (you rocked the yellow tabard)
Looking forward to the summer qualifiers!
